Granite is extremely durable, nevertheless there are few things that can damage the finish or lead to etching. Avoid chopping food directly on the granite worktop. Also substances like red wine could stain the worktops if they are in direct contact with the granite for a prolonged period. Use a damp cloth or washing up sponge with soapy water to clean your worktops.
There is absolutely no problem in having granite worktops fitted when living upstairs, however there might be an extra fee charge to cover the labour costs of the fitters as they have to carry the slabs up the stairs.
